What Is It?

The Workshops on Biblical Exposition is a 3-day training event aimed to encourage and equip you in the skills needed to read, understand, and proclaim the Word of God.

The Workshops on Biblical Exposition is a 3-day training event aimed to encourage and equip you in the skills needed to read, understand, and proclaim the Word of God. The Workshop includes times set aside for 1) Principles of Exposition (instructional sessions on how to better handle biblical texts), 2) Small Group Practice (when you will share and receive feedback on two passages you prepare in advance), and 3) Expositions (the opportunity to sit under the word). Each of these sessions is carefully designed to be interrelated for the greatest value in improving your work. In other words, this is a Workshop and not a conference. If you cannot be at all the sessions, then it really isn’t for you.

It is important to note: Partial participation is not permitted. Our pedagogical commitments in the small group sessions as well as the cumulative relationship between the small group and plenary sessions, full participation is required. Extenuating circumstances should be discussed with the Charles Simeon Trust and exceptions will be granted very rarely.

Who Should Attend?

The Women’s Workshops are generally for women who are currently in a teaching ministry with the responsibility to teach the Bible regularly.

The Women’s Workshops are generally for women who are currently in a teaching ministry with the responsibility to teach the Bible regularly. It is open to women who lead in regular teaching ministries including large group instructors, small group teachers, and women’s and children’s ministry leaders appointed by their churches.

How Should I Prepare?

During the small groups, you will have an opportunity to get feedback on work you’ve prepared in advance.

Director of Women's Workshops, Charles Simeon Trust

Colleen joined the Charles Simeon Trust in 2007 and serves as the Director of Women’s Workshops, where she is responsible for all activities related to the Workshops for women Bible teachers. Prior to working with the Trust, she was in the corporate world for several years in sales and marketing. Colleen earned a BS in Business Administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a MDiv from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Colleen and her husband live in the Philadelphia area, where he teaches New Testament at Cairn University. She is on staff at their church, Trinity Community Church, serving as the Director of Women’s Ministries. She also serves on the board of Matthias Media Ministries.

Deacon, Seven Mile Road Church

Shainu lives in Philadelphia and is a member at Seven Mile Road Church where her husband is a Pastor. They have two wonderful children. She serves in the children’s ministry, as a part of the Deacon team, and loves to disciple women who can then disciple others. Her passion is to find ways to share the gospel with the people around her. Shainu received her MBA from the University at Albany but then went back to school for a Nursing degree. For the last ten years, she has worked from home as a Nurse Case Manager.

Senior Pastor, Camelback Bible Church

Jim Johnston serves Senior Pastor for Camelback Bible Church near Phoenix, Arizona. He is a graduate of Wheaton College and earned both an MDiv and PhD in New Testament from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. His dissertation was on Mark’s Gospel. Jim has previously served as Senior Pastor of Tulsa Bible Church, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Senior Pastor of First Evangelical Free Church in Maplewood, Minnesota and on staff at College Church in Wheaton, Illinois and Chain of Lakes Church in Antioch, Illinois. He is the author of the forthcoming volumes on the Psalms in Crossway’s Preaching the Word commentary series

Text assignments will come from Titus.

Participants are expected to follow these guidelines from the host church and sign this waiver as they enter the Workshop.

Dinner Thursday, lunch Friday, and refreshment breaks each day are provided at no cost.
