Bringing Gospel Light to a Place of Darkness

David R. Helm

A Short Word, June 2026
If you’re like me, when you think of places underreached by the gospel of Jesus Christ, you think of places like the 10/40 Window.

Perhaps you’ll be surprised, as I was, to learn that the United States has a large pre-Christian mission field. It’s known as the Mormon Corridor, and it encompasses Utah and parts of neighboring states. Christians are in the extreme minority; evangelicals make up no more than three percent of the population. “It is a place of long-term spiritual darkness that needs the light of the gospel in the face of Jesus,” says Pastor Lukus Counterman, “God’s Word is desperately needed.”

Lukus decided to help. He worked with us to start a preaching cohort for pastors, using our Online Course, Persuasion. It was helpful, so he ran three more. Then, a few weeks ago, 92 men gathered at Gospel Grace Church for the first Workshop on Biblical Exposition in Salt Lake City, Utah. Imagine: what might God do through these pastors? If “faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ” (Romans 10:17), then it is no small thing to send pastors out reinvigorated to preach the gospel—and with improved skills to do so.

Please join me in prayer that God uses these pastors to bring the light of the gospel to many.

In Christ,
