A Short Word, November 2025
To what lengths would you go to get to a Workshop? What if the nearest Workshop is 800 miles away? For the women of Iglesia Gracia y Verdad in Heredia, Costa Rica, the closest Workshop is in Bogotá, Colombia. There is no land route connecting these countries, so in order to participate, they need flights and housing. It gets complicated and expensive quickly.
This presents a dilemma for Joy Herrera, the Director of Women’s Ministry, and her fellow Bible teachers. But they’re committed. “We save all year, a little each month to do this,” says Joy. This still isn’t enough, so their church pitches in. Additionally, the church in Bogotá, Iglesia Bautista Renacer, helps by providing host homes and meals. This February will mark the third year the women from Costa Rica travel to Colombia.
All the effort “has been worth it,” says Joy, because their teaching team has gained tools to study and teach the Bible. Hearing from God’s Word has helped correct a tendency that Joy saw among the women to try to “get ahead in life from a humanist point of view. Now they are learning to live from God’s point of view. It impacts every part of life.”
Give thanks with us that God provided to take these women great lengths in order to change lives through his Word.
In Christ,
